Sardac stood in the middle of a market, searching through a small store. He had come here to investigate a rumor that had made it's way around recently, that an ancient ruin in North Umberland had been discovered and plundered. Most of the civilized world ignored such claims, as how would the savage of the region loot ruins from a society they never really had.
It was amazing how quickly people forgot their history...then again the rumors were likely false. As a Black Coat though, the luxury of that assumption meant the end of the world.
Rummaging through the "bargain bin" or sort, he eventually found a small cube of green glass. He eventually took it to the store manager.
"How much for this trinket?"
The owner looked him up and down. Usually things were sold cheep around the area....it was likely that this little luxury would probably only cost his a pig or so. This one was foreign though, as could be told from his dress, and was clearly made of money.
"One hundred gold pieces."
It was a higher offer than he expected to be paid, as a simple merchant in a bazaar what was likely the most uncivilized city on Terra. He was trying to start a haggling in an overpriced range. He quickly lost his smirk when a bag was dropped on his table, gold coins falling out.
"Double if you tell me who brought it in town."
The mans face, now in disbelief, muttered silently as he looked at more money than he had probably had his seen in his entire life.
"Grugg's band....they're down at the Bear's Paw Tavern while they stay in town."
Sardac took his small trinket, and pulled another from his pocket. He connected the two, and then pointed it on to the clay wall of the dark building. A green light appeared from the small crystal he had purchased. It projected on to the wall, showing a large square, in which blue text scrolled by. The shop-keep's look of amazement went from the money to what was happening before him, probably wondering what he had just sold. He wouldn't have been able to decipher the language of the text...there were very few alive who could. Sardac was one of them.
"Historical texts...shame, could have been useful."
Sardac removed the crystal from the device he had removed, and then dropped it to the floor. His boot swiftly stopped it into the dirt, and as he pulled it off a strange gas could been seen floating away, smelling like a slightly sweet sulfur.
"Thank you for your time."
Sardac briskly left, leaving the dumbfounded man to his business. It was a shame he wasn't paying attention though, or he would have seen those sneaking into the alley behind his shop as he was packing away his money from prying eyes.
Sardac wasn't concerned about what happened to the man though, as he saw the sign for the tavern down the road. He arrived, pushed open the swing doors, and sat in the back corner in what was a tavern far too loud for the time of day. He was promptly served, barmaids seeing money as quickly as the shopkeep. He ordered a drink and sipped what apparently was fermented honey as he watched the crowd for suspicious eyes.
~After a successful loot, and considering how far the rumors got this quickly, it'll likely be the loudest braggart in the room."
