Note: Alchemy is a Bremelian (and possibly Umberland) only alignment, as it follows the hybrid mix of Lucia's Magic and Shussei's Technology. This must be kept in mind.
In essence, the art of Alchemy can often and very easily be misinterpreted as "use of magical scribes," a method of Rune Magic; Alchemy, however, is very different. While Rune Magic - and Magic in general - uses the personal source of Mana to create energy, objects, and elements to wield, Alchemy takes the personal source of sentient energy to manipulate the environment through the use of Scientific law as a method of transforming natural bodies, and using a small bit of Magic to extract the energy from one's body and convert its powers toward a Transmutation Circle - or, in truth, a magical seal designed to manipulate the material through energy.
Alchemy works like this: a trained user takes a pen or piece of chalk and draws out a Transmutation Circle that fits the intended conversion. These Transmutation Circles are very similar in concept to Runes and Scribes, however, it acts as a circulator of bodily energy transfer, not an activator and battery of personal mana. Once the Alchemist places a set of objects, such as simple pieces of iron, into the zone of the Circle, they then place both hands onto the edges of the said zone and imagine their desired result, while extracting their minuscule abilities over Magic in order to summon their bodily energies - be them converted from oxygen, kinetic movement, or broken down light energy from the Sun - and then transfer them into the Circle. The Transmutation then takes place, as the energy orbits the paths of the Circle and rapidly absorb the minerals and materials of the objects inside the Circle, then taking the chosen object of the user, it creates the former objects into a resulting object.
Note that this conversion needs to follow certain laws and guidelines, not those enforced by the Alchemists, but that of Nature itself. For one, a Transmutation cannot be completed if the user wishes to create something, yet has insufficient resources to do so. An Alchemist cannot create a longsword with only a few inches of steel. Therefore, Transmutation must follow the Law of Equivalent Exchange; to gain something, you must give something back in equal return. Hence, in order to create a certain object, you need to have equal or more resources than necessary to complete the process.
Also, a person's bodily energy is not unlimited. The larger or more complex the object, the more bodily energy that is required, and the more frequent your Transmutations occur, the more rapid your bodily energy drains. If you implement too many Transmutations or too large a Transmutation at one time, the user can quickly fatigue themselves and drain their personal and bodily will to keep focused, fight, or even stay conscious. If done often enough at once, the user can actually deprive their body of the necessary energy to work, and the user may accidentally lead to their own death by using too much energy.
However, there are no forseen long term affects of Alchemical use; thus far, Bremelian Lochan Priests, Scientists and Philosophers have not yet seen it probable that a user has "shattered their soul," as some Lucians have claimed. So far it is perfectly safe, so long as the user does not push their bodily limits to the edge too often.
In most cases, Alchemists can only activate a Transmutation Circle by directly touching the Scientific scribe; however, in the history of Alchemy, it has been seen that some Alchemists have become so adapt at the art that they can activate materials without Transmutation Circles, create large objects over time without exhausting their bodies, and rumors even claim of an Alchemist of the olden days being able to use Alchemy as if it were Magic. However, while these are only rumors and folk tale, it is recognized that those supposed Masters of Alchemy never create the objects without an equal resource of energy or materials, and therefore, their only gain is the rapid speed of their activations.
Alchemy is typically kept strictly enforced by the Order of the Alchemist, and any rogue Alchemists are often ostracized by the Order or even hunted down and secretly arrested due to the Order's lack of ability to control them. The Order has openly stated that some possible actions of Alchemy are too dangerous for unsupervised individuals to practice the art, and therefore those that act Alchemy on their own are threatened and warned.
In the Order of the Alchemist, there are very few things forbidden by Alchemists to create or produce. The most important action that is forbidden by all Alchemists to commit, however, is Human Transmutation. It has been proven that virtually no live human Alchemist has the sustainable energy necessary to revive another human being, no matter how far in death they may be, and even if the process succeeds and the user dies, it is unknown what would result. Therefore, to avoid more loss of life and the threat of what may come, the Order has strictly forbidden the art of Human Transmutation.
Alchemy is recognized to take years to learn, and in order to be properly educated, a person must first undergo an apprenticeship with a current Alchemist before being accepted.
Warning: As I am brought to believe that, thus far, I am the enforcer of wrongful actions and improper roleplaying that involve anything related to Bremelia, I strictly remind those reading that the ability to create Alchemy without Transmutation Circles is to be avoided for now. It is to be considered that such a skill is extremely difficult to gain, and in order to gain it, a roleplayer must be a keen veteran of this board. Therefore, this skill will not be opened to users until a much later date. Do not attempt to sneak by with it, or you will be considered for Godmodding and therefore punished.
