Wing 5, though named as though part of the Order of Alchemists, is an entirely seperate organization, with very different goals. It's aim is vaguely to support the current stability of the worlds governements, viewing the corruption in Bremelia as a way to let the country remain neutral in political affairs. They maintain the balance between all three countries in both Bremelia affairs and those who concern the entire world. In the nation that hold the ideals of liberty and freedom in the highest of value, they are the ones who sacrafice them to ensure others may keep them.
The reasons why they perform such actions are believed to be of historical importance, and this goal is a means to thier true, hidden end.
History:
The organizztion of modern day known as the 5th Wing as a history predating the order of Alchemists, streching back to the discovery of Alchemy itself. Though the records of such dates have long been lost, the story held amongst the highest members is that they are the modern descendents of one of the original human alchemist's disciples. Whether this is true or not is no longer and easy matter to prove, but the group has an exstensive knowledge of the art, and of it's history it is said to know more than the Order itself.
It is a regarded that they were the one's that established the taboo against human transmutation, though thier reasons are matter of reflection rather than prediction. They started the belief that it was a troublesome action by routinely purging and making example of those who began to study it.
The modern incarnation of the organization was estblished durng the Carteman War, when the goverment of Bremelia began to start looking for ways to fighting back as things became desperate. They began to search into hyrbid technology, and the 5th Wing was the ones that stopped the research as it began to advance, apparantly not wanting for it to go further. Not wanting those with advance hybrid knoweldge to become an enemy within, the floundering government agreed to halt thier efforts if the group seized hostilities.
Following the end of the war and the founding of the Bremelia Federation, the government allowed the group a good deal of power to operate as an independent group, dealing with any local arreas who wished to succeed from the federation to maintain it's power. They became the federations secret police and assasin's, and this evolved into international and domestic affairs as well. This is the current situation of the group to this day.
Organization:
5th Wing is organized into to sections, the Academy and the "Black Coats". The first is the larger group, it's entire purpose to train those who may eventually be added to the second group.
The Academy is not in essence a truly organized body, as the only ones who know of it's existance are it's instructors. They seek out those who show amazing or unique alchemic potential, as all members of the organization must be alchemists. This usually takes place at a young age, though later members can be discovered if they eventually arrive at the Order of Alchemists.
It is within the Order that training takes place. The members study alchemey within the Order as though they were any other alchemist. Those who teach them are also students of old age, as those who do not become Black Coats in youth are unlikley to ever do so. They strive to become competent alchemists in combat instead of research.
Named after the famous Blue Coat nickname for the local militia, the second and smaller group is drawn from the larger, and is in essence only ten, very powerful alchemists. They are each a specialist in one particuler feild, and never in thier history have two been known to share the same abilities. This is not an encouraged practice, as it is believed the focus required to become a Black Coat is so intense, it is unlikely two people will ever be proficient enough at the same skill to be in the organization at once.
Black Coats are the ones who actually perform all of the organizations duties. They each perfrom the groups goals, as well as safeguard one of the Relics, a ancient piece of Hybrid technology whose secrets are long lost and unexplainable by modern alchemists. The succesor to the position is chosen by whoever can discover the location of the lost Relic. To this end Black Coats often devise elaborate methods for thier discovery, in case they die suddenly. It is also common practice that all Black Coats know the location of every lower ranked members Relics. When they become a memeber, they are assigned a Relic to protect. They also take part is "the reading" a ceremony surrounded in mystery.
When one Academy member retrieves the lost Relic, he is immedietly given the position of Black Coat 1. Black Coats are not ranked by power or experience, but rather by thier years of service. Given the nature of thier work, Black Coats 1-4 are commonly lost, while 7-9 are hardened veterans. Black Coat 10 does not take any missions, instead acting as leader. When one of thier members dies, all below them move up in rank. They may alos be reassinged Relics if they are above Black Coat 3
Current Members:
All Black Coats are also members of The Order of Alchemists, as a cover for thier work. They are all Alchemists of great competence in a single field
