The "military" of the Bremelian Federation, the famed "Blue Coat" units are a rather depressing and unorganized organization at the current time. After one century of lacking a truly centralized leadership and forced to exist only to comfort the politicians and traders of their assigned for volunteered regions, the Militia is poorly equipped and poorly trained in either of the magical or technological schools. Wielding inferior firearms to Shussei and basic magic to the Lucians, the Bremelian militia's only real strength is the small flame of hope that lives within some of their soldiers' souls - that hope: to restore Bremelia to Liberty.
The Militia itself is separated into at least three infantry divisions fortifying or policing a single region, with small bits of vehicular or mounted support troops. The Militia of a single region is meant to act as the emblem of protection, often shown to their public committing to training exercises, parades and region-wide marches. While a Militia typically does not see live action or come across real combat, the necessity of propaganda keeps them sharp in mind, body and spirit. The part-time soldiers of the Militia are often die-hard in loyalty to the land of Bremelia, and stern regarding their lifestyle.
Typical Militia soldiers of any regiment carry a sixteen-shot magazine-fed semi-automatic carbine, with a simple 9mm Colt Pistol as their side arm, a bayonet for close quarters battle, and other means of combat and survival gear. However, Militia units of the east have begun to adapt to their local regions' interests in Shussian technology, and can be seen carrying better equipment than those units trained in towns like Bern or the city of Effusion itself. Similarly in the west, Bremelian militia units tend to adopt basic training in magic, such as healing spells or spark casts.
The Militia of each region is led by a ranking Captain, and this officer is then given support by their Wardens. Below these commanders, of course, are the footmen and specialists of the various Militias. The Captains are often "elected" by a central government figurehead, and are discouraged from cooperating defense tactics with other Captains.
Ranks of the Bremelian Militia
- Captain of the Guard - Commander of Regional Militia forces; elected by central government; wears the "blue coat" uniform
- Warden - Second in Command to the Regional Captain; acts primarily as a Lieutenant to platoons or entire companies; wears the "blue coat" uniform
- Specialist - The "Sergeants" of a platoon or company, these soldiers deal with particular operations of an operation; wear "blue coats," but only on ornamental occasions, otherwise wear the military green attire
- Regular - As the name suggests, this soldier is the backbone of the Bremelian Militias; wears a "blue coat" only upon graduation from training or highly formal occasions, otherwise wears the military green attire
- Rifleman - The rookie rank of the Militia, these soldiers are fresh from volunteering and still learning the various skills of their occupation, and are therefore most useful for firing their weapon; do not yet wear "blue coats," and are usually seen in grey training uniforms unless in combat, where they wear green military attire
