Basic Information
Name: Isus Jarode
Race: Human
Class: Alchemist
Age: 22 Terran Years
Height: 6 ft. 3 in.
Weight: 190 lbs. (without right arm); 220 lbs. (with right arm).
Hair: Universally a brunette color, the style leaves the threads completely straight and lanky, rolling down Jarode’s forehead and skull rather easily. Hair reaches maximum length of Isus’ chin, loosely covering his face.
Eyes: Dull chocolate Brown.
Sex: Male.
Appearance
Upper Body Build: Isus Jarode’s body is moderately lean for someone of his age and body – not unfit, but not in excellent condition either. His chest is chiseled somewhat, his shoulders rather circular and “weak,” and his face unscarred and rather attractive. Both of his arms are abnormally large, reaching past his hips, and his right arm is actually an artificial limb, lost at an accident and replaced by “automail” – a steel arm at times covered by a rubbery flesh substitute; the arm itself is constructed purely as steel.
Lower Body Build: Isus’ legs are twice the size of his torso; this is not natural, however, as Jarode lost both of his legs from below the mid-calf due to the same accident that destroyed his arm. The artificial limbs are supported by a titanium skeleton, whereas the rest of their form are built of a stronger, more flexible mixture of the flesh substitute placed on his right arm. The natural hips are quite strong, and heavily protected by a metal guard that covers them while the artificial legs are connected.
Clothing Style: A bit self-conscious of the part of him that is false, Isus Jarode usually garbs himself in attire that hides as much of his body as possible. His most commonly worn piece of clothing is his beige trench coat, which wraps closely to his body all the way down to the heavy buckled brown boots; an emblem is designed in his left sleeve. On his waist sits an alchemical utility belt, his “shirt” is actually a series of silk bandages wrapped across his chest, his fake legs are covered by a thick brown khaki pant, and his lower body is covered by an auburn tabard.
Advanced Information
Personality: A withdrawn, calculated scientist and reasonably experienced tactician, Isus Jarode is the man you see standing behind the stage or in the rear of the group, staring intensively at the speakers or actors of the event. His face is often in a default frown, and his eyes often wander due to extended thought. He prefers to speak very little, yet finds himself believing in so much to say. Often believed as cold and without compassion, Jarode allows the stereotype of his title as an Alchemist and Bremelian Scientist to hide his secret ambition: to bring the Liberties of Bremelia back from the dead.
Nation: The Federation of Bremelia
Organization: The Order of the Alchemist
Religion: The Lochan Theology
History
Born in the torn Bremelian town of Bern, infant Isus Vale Jarode was the first and only son of the Alchemist Anthony Jarode and the Politician Jennifer Vale. As families go, the Jarodes were well set financially and socially, the two parents rather popular in their corresponding fields of study and their successes enough to support their family in the upper-middle class range of the economy. Their home wasn’t necessarily simple, as it was comfortable and well furnished, but it came off as less than they could afford.
The majority of their funds while Jarode was a toddler remained in donations toward the needing homeless of Bremelia, or fundraisers of various needs for The Order of the Alchemist. Isus’ father Anthony was a well positioned Master – or Veteran Alchemist – of the Order, and therefore held a small deal of influence in matters. His mother was a small time Councilwoman of the local Bern Regional Parliament, and was a former supporter for technological advances in Bremelia until meeting her husband.
Jarode himself grew up in a rather quiet childhood, nothing in particular occurring that could harm or change his life style or personal attributes. He was a happy child with shown interests in science and technology, and a bit of dabbling in magic. Nothing more, nothing less. He had a few friends, a pet, and a wonderful home. As said, it was anyone’s hope for a childhood, and it was given to Isus.
The most significant thing that occurred in his life began at the age of fourteen years. After graduating from his local secondary school, Isus was accepted into the Order of the Alchemist as his father’s apprentice, and spent three years learning the methods to designing a Transmutation Circle, manipulating the creation of tools and objects from materials, and memorizing element charts. His father was a leading researcher in the Order’s first wing of operations.
His career was poised on investigating the ruins of Temperance, attempting to recover the bits and pieces of maps and documents that detailed the various arts of blending Magic and Technology into one almighty power. One of Anthony’s greatest discoveries had been the schematics for Automail, an artificial limb that connected to one’s nervous system and used metals and plastics as its structure.
At the age of seventeen, Isus found himself nearing his inauguration to graduating from his education, and finally become an Alchemist himself. Yet, before the final exams from the first wing were ready, Isus’ father was requested to make another expedition to Temperance. It was suspected that a more advanced form of the Automail prototype was hidden somewhere inside an installation underneath the city ruins, and when given the details, Isus’ father Anthony could not resist. After being given an approval by his wife, Anthony and Isus Jarode rode a train to the abandoned city, hoping to discover their treasure.
About a week passed as the expedition dug through the rubble of the skyscrapers and structures, and another week later they found themselves at the heart of the installation. Nothing was found for several weeks, however, the offices of the special operations of the building was discovered, looted, and returned to the surface. Anthony’s team did not find exactly what they hoped for – a method of creating Automail that looked exactly like a natural limb – however, they did discover a new method to creating tougher, lighter flesh-substitute. Hoping to use the new design on a friend he knew who was forced to use an automail hand, Anthony and his team spent the next evening packing camp and filling the trenches.
The next morning, Isus Jarode strolled across the expedition’s project sector, looking at the dead buildings and tilting beams, when a strange shake began to surround him. Glancing left and right, Isus heard the crack of titanium, and had no idea where a complex structure had shattered. As he realized a shadow was enveloping him, Jarode looked directly upward just in time to see a metal beam heading towards the earth that he stood upon.
The young man awoke hours later in pain, his eyes already tearing, his body shaken and weak. He felt the weightlessness of his lower body and his right side, attempted to see why, and found his father pressing his head back down. He was not told at the time, but he would soon discover later, when the new prototypes for automail limbs had been slid near him: the fallen structure had nearly crushed him, destroying his right arm from just below the shoulder and both of his legs from below the mid-calf and forcing the rescue teams to amputate the doomed limbs.
The surgery that connected the artificial Automail to his body was excruciating. Hours were spent connecting the nervous system to each of the three metal objects and training Isus’ muscles to adapt towards the change; hours more were spent on redesigning the boy’s blood stream to loop back towards his body without killing the cells of his surviving legs and shoulder.
After a month of recovery therapy, Isus Jarode found himself a good deal taller and a good deal slower in movement, yet his mind was now sharper, more mature, more understanding of the world’s wrongs. He had kept the pain from driving him insane by listening to his mother explain the politics of Terra, and his father explain the various details of both Magic and Technology. Isus Jarode understood the sins of the past century, and knew what his destiny was driven to be: to free Bremelia from its oppressors, and restore the Republic to its former glory.
Now, five years after the drastic trauma of his lost limbs, Isus has significantly adapted to the new parts of his body, has become a well experienced Alchemist of the Order in its fourth wing, and has learned much of his intentions. Far more quiet than his childhood, Jarode has sadly discovered that he is far from the type to act as a leader, and instead has chosen to find someone who shares his beliefs, yet holds a voice that can lead both itself and many others, and help them gain their goal.
Non-Player Characters
Anthony Jarode: Age – 55; Hair – Red; Eyes – Brown; Height/Weight – 5”11’/200 lbs; relaxed body, signs of a formerly muscular and exercised man. Anthony Jarode, the father of Isus, is a Master of the Order of the Alchemist, and was formerly Isus’ teacher as he learned the ways of an Alchemist. He is a leading member of the Order’s first wing, and was the discoverer and creator of Automail.
Jennifer V. Jarode: Age – 53; Hair – Black; Eyes – Blue; Height/Weight – 5”7’/130lbs; lean body, relatively youthful, holds to “hourglass” frame. Jennifer Vale is Isus Jarode’s mother and a Politician of the Bern Regional Parliament.
Class Description: Alchemists are a Bremelian-only group of Scientists, Chemists and Physicists who use the influence of Lucia’s Magic to manipulate the scientific laws of Nature to augment materials and elements into objects. Alchemists use Transmutation Circles, similar to drawn incantations or summoning scribes, and use these circles to circulate a user’s kinetic and bodily energy. Using this energy, an Alchemist can then create a Circle that can create a particular object, such as a sword, a vase, a set of stairs, or a wall. While the extensive detail of the objects depend on the skill of the Alchemist, it is theorized that practically anything can be created using Alchemy, as long as the user has the necessary materials and the right amount of energy necessary to create it.
Fighting Style: Isus Jarode persists to try and keep as much distance between himself and the target as possible. A more defensive fighter, Jarode uses his personal pistols to draw away or deal with threats, or uses his Alchemical abilities to create walls or other obstacles for those that wish to attack him. If he is working with allies – as he intends to keep most often – Jarode will use Alchemy to keep his opponents distracted from himself and those allies that are longer range as his closer-ranged allies draw in for close-range combat; once that ally has drawn near, Isus will end his weapons fire and attempt to use Alchemy to disable the target.
If every engaged in close range, Isus typically uses an Alchemical seal etched across the outer palm of his fake right arm to manipulate the metal of the Automail into a shortsword, a shield, or a thin spear depending on the necessities. From there, he keeps to the styles of fast, distant cuts, using his long Automail legs to kick him away from any enemy attacks if necessary.
Weapon(s) of Choice: For far-off battle, Jarode uses a pair of old-fashioned Bremelian Colts, a well-balanced pistol armed with nine 9mm bullets that can be discharged relatively quickly (see “Appearance” for image). Hidden behind Isus’ trench coat lay two ribbons that carry about six magazines for each pistol.
For close quarters combat, if it ever occurs, Jarode activates the Transmutation Circle on his right arm that forms his Automail into a simple, yet tough, shortsword; if the occasion requires it, this arm can also be manipulated into a small shield or thin spear. In the event that his right arm is disabled, Isus carries a small dagger hidden at the back of his right hip.
For creating Transmutation Circles, Isus carries a number of pens or pieces of chalk in his pocket; carries a small “Bible” that covers his necessary circle designs, as well as quotes and scripts from the Lochan texts.
Strengths: Jarode’s preference of distance acts as an excellent safeguard from harm, easily allowing his skills to be implemented in combat. His aim, since his primary weapon is clearly based on long-ranges, is rather accurate as well, and his abilities with Alchemy are reasonably advanced, allowing for exceptional ease when manipulating the shapes and forms of creating weapons and objects.
Weaknesses: Jarode is barely fit for any sort of real combat; he’s a thinker, not an athlete or fighter. Therefore, his close quarters combat is rather inexperienced and rusty, and since he is unable to often wield a sword and shield at once, he has difficulty acting both offensively and defensively when engaged. Also, while his legs and arms are made of metal, they are far from acting naturally flexible and mobile, and therefore Jarode is limited from running rapidly or jumping well.
